     Online Roulette - American Roulette
What is American Roulette?

American Roulette is a game of chance that is played by bouncing a small round ball onto a spinning roulette wheel. When the wheel stops, the roulette ball comes to rest in one of the numbered slots or pockets. The object in playing American Roulette is to bet on the number, or combination of numbers, on which the roulette ball will land.

How to Play American Roulette?

The goal in a game of free american roulete is to guess which number the roulette ball will fall on as it spins on the wheel. After the player places his bet on the roulette table, the dealer releases a small ball on to the spinning wheel (in the opposite direction of the spin). The ball ultimately stops in one of the numbered pockets of the roulette wheel and the player has to predict which one it will falls on. If the bouncing ball lands on the color, number, or combination of numbers that you have bet on, you've won and your wager is returned to you at different payout rates depending on the type of roulette bet you've placed and the odds of that particular kind of bet winning.

There are two main types of bets in American Roulette. They are called inside bets and outside bets. An inside bet is when the player bets on any roulette number from 0-36 (corresponding to the number on the pockets of the wheel) or on a small group of up to six numbers. An outside bet is placed outside the roulette table layout and is placed on colors (red or black) or on larger combinations of twelve or eighteen if you play American Roulette online, the roulette wheel and the roulette ball are virtual, and the dealer is actually a computer. Nevertheless, the effect is the same as if playing roulette with a real roulette ball rolling around inside a real roulette wheel that has been set in motion by a real human dealer.

History

The first forms of Roulette can be traced to 18th century France. It is believed that the Roulette wheel is a fusion of several English wheel games like Roly Poly, Ace of Hearts, E.O. and the Italian board games Hoca and the word Roulette literally means small wheel. The initial version of the game was the American version with both the 0 and the 00 bets. The European version with only the 0 bet came in much later.

In 1860, Roulette was being banned all over Europe. In the United States however, the French double zero wheel reached as far as New Orleans and from there moved westwards. Up to then, the wheel was not mounted on a table and was to a large extent portable. However, due to rampant cheating by players and operators alike, the wheel was eventually placed atop a numbered and marked table to prevent devices from being fitted on to the wheel. This also led to a simplification of the betting process. Eventually, the French game evolved into American Roulette as we now know the American game developed in gambling dens with hastily set up makeshift games, while European Roulette evolved with style and leisure in Monte Carlo.

Still, owing to its fast and simplified betting and cashing options, it is the American version that dominates the game in casinos the world over.
